My first day in Taipei.
This concoction is actually areca nuts wrapped in betel leaves. You're not meant to actually eat any of it, just swallow the juice and spit out the rest once it dries up.
Though often sold at roadside stands by scantily-clad ladies my purchasing experience was a little different; the grumpy old woman that eventually sold me this bag had to be talked into it -- she was convinced I'd have a heart attack if I had all of it, and she was probably right... Just one piece gets your heart racing!
My thrill-less ride on the Singapore Flyer. Ditto for Singapore.

There are no tech bargains in Singapore. Trust me.
My first durian in Singapore (finally).
Here's something a little different -- an audio clip describing my first taste of durian fruit on the famous Bugis Street in Sinapore's Chinatown...

Facing my past in Singapore... Literally.

Thip Samai, the best pad thai in Bangkok.
I was so proud of myself for finding this place -- that is, until I found out they have a website...
Obligatory Bangkok touristy shit -- Grand Palace, Reclining Buddha and Wat Arun.
It seems to me that in many ways Thailand is the realm of ghosts and demons who decided the fate of this world a long time ago...
Lots more photos of Bangkok and the other stops on my trip can be seen in this Flickr set...

Bangkok by land and sea and land (YouTube vids).
Click through for videos of the Bangkok SkyTrain, the Chao Phraya Express Boat and this virtual tuk-tuk ride!
My digs in Bangkok, for $100 CAD per night (!) Thanks, TripAdvisor...
It's true... I scored a deluxe river-view room at The Chatrium Suites, the number-one rated Bangkok hotel on TripAdvisor.com -- just because one of their booking sites had a crazy-ass sale.
Check out that view, and that hot phone! : )

Stopover in London to get a loaner from Nokia -- but which one?
Before heading onwards to southeast Asia yours truly spent a day in the UK, where I met up with Tom from Nokia's WOM World to say hi. Little did I know he also brought along some little friends -- and even better, I could take one with me!
But which one?
- N86 - the swan-song for S60 3rd Edition Nokias;
- N900 - Nokia's first Linux phone;
- N97 Mini - the smaller and arguably better version of the handset that I trialled across the USA last summer.
Pasty white director takes over Asiansploitation blog-iverse for another week or so, with good reason.
Yes it's me again, back to re-blog document my recent trip around the world -- and by "around the world" I mean mostly southeast Asia.
Read on as yours truly spends one night in Bangkok (and then three more), faces his comedy past in Singapore, meets up with Sandy Chen's parents in Taipei and sucks face with a tuna (a dead one) in Tokyo...
Asianploitation got a spot in the 2010 Toronto Fringe!
Thanks to the lovely Lana C. for covering the last few blogs and providing awesome pics of the crew onstage(and off..sorry, Mom)!!
It feels like a great way to start the week though, as ASIANSPLOITATION GOT PIUCKED FOR A SPOT IN THE 2010 TORONTO FRINGE!!!! For those who may not know the Toronto Fringe is one of North America's largest theatre festivals. Many shows that have gone on to become Broadway productions, started out as Toronto Fringe plays, shows such as: Evil Dead: The Musical! and The Drowsy Chaperone. Will Asiansploitation's next revue become next year's Avenue Q? or next year's 'Glitter'?(okay, this was not a Fringe production, but a truly atrocious movie, neverthelesss) We'll keep you posted with more details about our Fringe show in July 2010!!!!
2nd instalment...
